Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the wonderfully bookish and list-loving folk over at The Broke and the Bookish and I’m joining in for the first time this week because the theme is Top Ten Books I Wouldn’t Mind Santa Bringing Me. I put my Christmas tree up at the weekend and I am already feeling rather festive so it was easy to get into the spirit of this list! Here’s my top ten – they are all books I have been hearing good things about recently but haven’t got my hands on yet:
1. Renegade by J. A. Souders
Mind control and a sinister baddie known as Mother in an underworld utopia where all is not as it seems. Apparently you shouldn’t be fooled by the seemingly innocent cover…
2. Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner 
This has been billed as a ‘once in a lifetime book’ and bloggers have been raving about this dystopian tale in which a boy named Standish stands up to a ruthless regime. (In fact, I’d be happy to receive any of the titles on Hot Key Books’ launch list!)
3. Crewel by Gennifer Albin
In Arras women known as Spinsters run the world– literally. Something tells me Beyonce would approve! But sixteen-year-old Adelice will do anything in her power to hide her gift and avoid becoming a Spinister.
4. The Diviners by Libba Bray
It’s set in 1920s New York. There’s a mystery involving grisly killings and the occult. There’s a female protagonist with a mysterious power that could help her catch the killer. And I love the cover.
5. The Lucky Ones by Anna Godbersen
I guess I’m channelling my inner flapper at the moment because this is another one set in the roaring twenties. I’ve read the first two in Godbersen’s Bright Young Things series and can’t wait to find out what happens next.
6. Beta by Rachel Cohn
A sci-fi dystopian novel about a teenaged girl clone who is supposed to be unfeeling, but begins to experience powerful emotions. She must learn to control them because if she is found out she will be destroyed.
7. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
Because it’s set in December and sounds like a warm, light-hearted festive read, and because I’m a complete sucker for such things.
8. Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone
A time travel romance that flits between Chicago and San Francisco.
9. The Dark Heroine (Dinner with a Vampire) by Abigail Gibbs
I just need to know what it is about this book, which went viral on Wattpad before being snapped up by Harper Voyager, that got so many readers hooked!
10. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
I’ve wanted a copy of the hauntingly illustrated version of this book for a while.

/ December 4, 2012Great choices. The Diviners is on my list as well. I own A Monster Calls and it’s super heavy! I was shocked by how much it weighed for such a small book.

/ December 4, 2012I bought the Diviners a few weeks ago. It’s a bit of a monster of a book so I’m putting it off until I have enough time to read it without having to stop for study or whatnot. But it looks great.
I really enjoyed Crewel too 🙂 Hope Santa takes the hint and bringsyou some fantastic books.

/ December 4, 2012I’m so behind on Godberson’s books! I read The Luxe over the summer and *loved* it, and I own the next two in the series, I just get sidetracked by all the other stuff in my TBR pile. Because I’ll pick up one book and be like “no, I should read something else” and then pick up another book and say the same thing until I get to a book that I’ve been meaning to read for ever…such a viscious cycle!

/ December 4, 2012Oh I know what you mean – too many good books to read! But the good thing about Godbersen’s books is they are so easy to read, you can’t help but get through them quickly. I loved all the Luxe books too so I was so glad when she brought out another series.
